5 of Southern Utah’s Most Accident-Prone Intersections

If you’ve spent any time driving through Southern Utah, you’ve probably noticed a few intersections where accidents seem to happen over and over again. At CollisionCam, we don’t just hear about these crashes—we see them. Our high-definition cameras monitor many of the busiest and most dangerous intersections in the region, helping us capture footage that can protect victims, assist law enforcement, and improve traffic safety.

Below are five of the most accident-prone intersections in Southern Utah—and the good news is, we’re monitoring every single one.

1. River Road & Riverside Drive (St. George)

This intersection sees a constant flow of traffic from nearby hospitals, schools, and shopping centers. With flashing yellow yield arrows, it’s become a common site for failure to yield collisions.

Safety Tip: Use extra caution when making left turns and be alert for pedestrians, especially during peak traffic hours.

2. Sunset Boulevard & Dixie Drive (St. George)

Sunset and Dixie is a crash magnet, especially during the morning and evening commute. Multiple lanes, turning vehicles, and fast speeds make this a complex intersection with frequent accidents.

Safety Tip: Slow down and anticipate that other drivers may misjudge gaps in traffic.

3. Red Hills Parkway & Gateway Drive (St. George)

This newer intersection was designed to improve traffic flow in a growing part of St. George—but it’s still a work in progress when it comes to driver awareness. The result? Frequent hesitation, misjudged turns, and rear-end collisions—especially among those unfamiliar with the area.

Safety Tip: Drive slowly and stay alert as you approach. Because the intersection is still unfamiliar to many, expect sudden stops or uncertain moves from other drivers—especially during peak travel hours.

4. St. George Boulevard & 1000 East (St. George)

This bustling intersection near the university and several busy commercial spots sees heavy pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Quick stops, last-minute turns, and congestion are common issues.

Safety Tip: Watch for sudden stops and students crossing outside of marked crosswalks.

5. Red Cliffs Drive & Mall Drive (St. George)

One of the region’s busiest retail corridors, this intersection sees nonstop traffic, especially during weekends and holidays. High vehicle turnover and distracted driving often result in minor but frequent collisions.

Safety Tip: Stay patient during peak shopping hours and avoid speeding through yellow lights.

Why We Monitor These Areas

These aren’t just any intersections—they’re the places where drivers most often get hurt, vehicles get damaged, and confusion reigns. By placing our cameras at these high-risk spots, CollisionCam captures clear footage that can be used in insurance claims, police reports, and legal cases. We do this at no cost to accident victims or the police.
